Holy Sh%t! The Eagles beat the Bears! The Morning After

Good morning campers,

Good morning campers,

Well hey, it was a great year, right? Hey, making the playoffs was an accomplishment all in it of itself. The Eagles should be proud of their 2018 season. Just stinks to lose a game like that to of all people, their former kicker, Cody Parkey.

I mean, that was so…

Wait… What?

Let’s get to getting…

*I am literally running out of words to describe this team and Nick Foles. After yesterday, I’m going with improbable and surreal, which are defined as not likely to be true or to happen and having the disorienting, hallucinatory quality of a dream; unreal; fantastic, respectively.

*In keeping with the improbably surrealistic feeling this team evokes, try this stat on for size: Since 1990, road teams with minus 2 or worse in any round of the playoffs had gone 4-83 before yesterday. That’s 4 wins versus 83 losses. That record now stands at 5-83.

*Here’s another improbable surreal stat: The referee yesterday was Tony Corrente. For the season, the home team had won 73% of games he and his crew had officiated. Moreover, the Eagles were 2-8 in their history on the road when Corrente & Crew were in the house.

*Let’s play Jeopardy! for a second, shall we? The answer is: The 3 all-world, all-pro, there’s no-way-to-stop-them defensive studs who combined – COMBINED for 11 tackles and ZERO sacks against the Eagles? The question is: Who are Aaron Donald, JJ Watt and Khalil Mack. Truly hard to believe, Harry.

*It is way too easy to blame Cody Parkey for the loss if you’re a Bears fan. A glimpse onto social media right after the game and even a few hours later, the following Tweet was representative of many Bears fans: “Cody Parkey is the most hated man in Chicago since Steve Bartman.”

Sorry Bears fans, but your ire is being pointed in the wrong direction. You want to blame someone, blame your vaunted defense who allowed a backup QB to take his team right down the field against you, on the road, mind you, and convert on a 4th and goal. In other words Bears fans, Cody Parkey should have never even been put in the situation he was (put in).

*Having said that, as MQ is famous for saying: He (Parkey) had one job. One. Kick a ball through some uprights and over a cross bar. One job.

*Did anyone else have the same “pregnant pause” feeling we all experienced at the end of the Super Bowl? For a split second, I know I thought the kick was good, and I, in fact, started reaching for my jacket to make my way home from MQs. It was if the world stopped spinning for only a brief moment in time, then reality sprung back into action.

*Be honest with this next question: Who else thought something along the lines of the following after Foles threw his second INT? “Well, we’re seeing why Nick’s been a backup most of his career. Oh sure, he’s always going to be a God in Philly after last year, but those throws were deplorable. Thanks for the memories, Nick, but CW will take it from here starting next season.”

C’mon be honest here. I sure as hell thought that way. There was simply no way he (Foles) could overcome not one, but two interceptions on the road against the #1 defense. No way.

*Now having said that, er written that… I am going on record right now and stating that Carson Wentz is the franchise QB of the Philadelphia Eagles and will be starting next season. Unless of course St. Nick, um…. somehow, well.. I won’t even say it.

*Speaking of Nicky 6, right before the start of their game-winning TD drive, I said to MQ aloud that this is where the legend either dies or goes on.

*As for my thoughts on the upcoming Saints game. Well, the opening line had the Saints favored by 9.5 points. Fine. Perfect. I love it. And I’m sure so do the Eagles. I can tell you, with 100% objectivity, this Eagles team is the last team I would want to be playing right now. To say there’s a certain vibe connected with this team would be a massive understatement, and if I were the Saints, I would be concerned to say the least.

Till next time…
